Reader’s Review

This is a beautiful and gentle story of a little girl who goes to school but doesn’t fit in because of her culture and her economic status. She wears only one faded blue dress each day but she tells her classmates that she has a hundred dresses all lined up in her room. They of course think she’s lying until one day she leaves and they realize what she meant. But by then it’s too late to make amends for their snide remarks and unkind actions. Beautifully written and illustrated, this is a story worth discussing especially in the classroom – however it may feel old-fashioned and a bit slow for kids today, and adults may have to encourage their children to complete the book.

To look out for

Not much to be concerned about except the obsession of the girls with beautiful clothing.
