Reader’s Review

An interesting read that will engage preteens and teens alike with fast moving action and a unique setting. Based on the famous Les Miserables, the novels tells the story of a boy who escapes the prison in which he was born but finds that the free world is also full of injustice.  The story is a mixture of reality and magic.

To look out for

  • Islamic Values: The prisoners are accustomed to petty theft. There are many scuffles that breakout between the children. The main character is adopted temporarily by a monk. When he escapes from the monastery he is left with no clothes but his underclothes. The girls who wishes to catch him learns that her mother is not her real mother.
  • Violence: Threats of violence, a fire destroys a building housing poor people, one rescuer dies, the Governor is evil, Pong almost drowns several times, frequent fighting between the children.
