Reader’s Review

A fast-paced mystery full of suspense and drama, that is likely to keep the attention of most middle schoolers. Although Ali breaks rules and sneaks out on a number of occasions, it’s always to save his friend, and the strong relationship between him and his dad is nice to see. The constant turn of events and dangerous situations Ali gets himself into maybe too much for younger or sensitive readers.

To look out for

  • Islamic Values: In his efforts to save Gabe his friend, Ali sneaks out of his house a number of times, stays up late, uses his playstation, and his step-mother’s computer without permission. Gabe’s father is a violent criminal who forces his sons to steal.
  • Language: The word ‘butt’ is used a few times.
  • Violence: Ali and a rival in school get into a physical fight. Ali punches him in the nose, and gets a black eye. Gabe’s father is violent, and Gabe’s brother kidnaps Ali and threatens him with a gun, twists his arm and punches him.
