The third book in the popular mystery series. While the story is engaging and the writing easy to read – and theme of police violence well discussed – unfortunately the frequent use of profanity and the easy with which Ali is constantly breaking rules, makes it a doubtful choice for kids.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: Ali uses an illegal device to intercept police chatter, even after he is caught. He constantly sneaks out in the middle of the night, having to lie about it to his family members. He continues to do this throughout the book despite being caught and grounded, justifying it by saying that detective work is in his blood.
- Language: Very frequent use of ‘damn’, as well as other words such as ‘sh-t’
- Violence: Police see gang violence, one gang member is shot by the police. There is an incident of domestic violence where the wife tries to shoot her husband. A young child gets lost. Other violent incidents are reported by the police.
- Romance: Ali must debate with a girl that he likes, but who has opposing beliefs on police violence.
