Reader’s Review
Published for the first time in the 1980’s this is a mystery series that has been engaging new readers for over 40 years. The books are very short with simple plots and short sentences (the language is almost stilted at times, lacking any sophistication). In each book the main character uses her photographic memory to solve a mystery with her best friend. The kids often face scary situations, but are always able to solve the case and catch the bad guys. The plots can sound old-fashioned at times, and the situations are sometimes far-fetched (for example in the first book the kids take a baby along with them to catch thieves who have stolen diamonds), but many parents have found that reluctant readers are willing to read these books.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: Jennifer (better known as Cam) solves each mystery with her best friend Eric. The two friends are sometimes unfriendly towards other kids. Some of the books involve going to the movies or the circus, etc.
- Violence: The two children get themselves into sticky situations such as getting captured by thieves, but there is no violence in terms of fighting or injuries.
