Twelve-year-Twelve-year-old Lulu and her younger sister, Serena, have a secret. As Daddy always says, “it’s best if we keep it to ourselves,” and so they have. But hiding your past is one thing. Reader’s Review
A sweet story of two girls who live alone in a trailer as they wait for their father to come back. The love between the siblings and their parents is beautifully described, but sensitive or young children might have a hard time with the threat of homelessness and how they must survive completely on their own.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: Lulu’s father suffers from depression after his wife dies, and at one point he leaves home for two weeks. Their aunt is not very understanding. 12 year old Lulu finds a good friend Jack who introduces her to the school theater where they perform music together. She must lie to her friends and classmates when they ask about her father, and she also forges his signature a few times to keep from having to tell the truth of his disappearance.
- Violence: Lulu’s father is knocked unconscious by a thief
