Reader’s Review
Fans of Curious George will be thrilled to read this book where Curious George celebrates the month of Ramdan with his friend Kareem. It’s a cute book with a similar style and illustrations to other Curious George books, but there isn’t much of a plot or any mischief that the monkey gets into. Instead the book is more of an introduction to the holy month and some of the vocabulary associated with Ramadan.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: While there isn’t any major concerns with the book, some discussion points worth talking about are: Kareem is young and it is good for him to participate in the month of Ramadan but God does not require young children to fast the entire day – it is usually better for them to attempt fasting part of the day. Also eating is certainly an important part of Ramadan and Eid culture, but it is not the only thing Muslims look forward to! And overeating or wasting food is discouraged at all times.
