Reader’s Review
This series of books about two friends in 2nd grade is marketed to young girls under the age of 9, and many parents may unknowingly believe that this is good material for new readers because of the simple language. However the girls make many unfortunate choices and are not good role models, and many of the themes are in conflict with Islam and morality.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: One of the girls is mean, rude and selfish, and particularly antagonistic to her older sister, stealing from her and playing frequent pranks on her. The second girl is fascinated by witchcraft and wants to study to become a witch. The parents rarely get involved when the girls make wrong choices, and there are frequent incidents of children being rude and making fun of adults.
- Language: The girls use words like dumb, stupid and dork, among other insults.
- Romance: The girls talk about boyfriends or falling in love on occasion.
