Fans of Montgomery’s beloved Anne of Green Gables will be thrilled to read about another young girls from Prince Edward Island. The book has similar themes of family, home and love, with numerous descriptions of the nature and beauty of the island. In this story a young girl lives with her difficult grandmother, who dominates the household and the lives of her daughter and granddaughter. She tells Jane that her father is dead, but one day Jane realizes her father is alive, and she spends a wonderful summer at her father’s home. If only her mother could join them…

To look out for

• Islamic Values: Jane’s grandmother is mean, selfish, inconsiderate of her daughter, and lies about Jane’s father. She calls another child ‘riff raff’. Jane’s aunt is also deceptive and conniving. She teaches Jane to hate her father. Jane’s cousin discusses with Jane about what a divorce is and what it would mean if her parents were to get divorced. Jane fears her father will get a divorce and marry another woman.
