Reader’s Review

In this extremely popular adventure book series for younger readers, a brother and sister find a magic tree house in which they find books that allow them to go back in time or to different parts of the world. In each book the two get themselves into a precarious situation as they solve a mystery or look for a missing object. While the situations are sometimes dangerous or scary, no one gets injured and the two always escape danger in the end and return home safely. Adults may find the plots repetitive and lacking in creativity, but many young readers enjoy the adventures. And added bonus is the information that each book provides about animals, scientific discoveries or historical events.

To look out for

  • Islamic Value: Magic is a major part of the storyline. The books in the tree house are magical. They meet Morgan who turns into different animals through magic. Books 29 and onwards involve Merlin the Magician, and some of their adventures are related to fantasy, magic spells, ghosts etc. Parents are advised to look at the title and skim the plot before picking the books for their children.
  • Violence: In some books the kids are captured, or almost attacked by animals, villains, etc. No one gets seriously hurt.
