Reader’s Review
A creative story with colourful illustrations that will engage children, especially young girls. Nusaiba has to face bullies in school who laugh at her mom – is it because of her hijab? The highlight of the book are the pages when the two girls pick up different coloured hijabs and imagine what career matches each hijab (an added bonus is seeing the different women working jobs while in hijab). In the end Nusaiba stands up for her mom and chooses to try wearing a hijab to school and all ends well.
To look out for
The book is about wearing hijab, but there is no mention of God or why Muslims wear hijab. It would be useful to discuss with children that colourful hijabs are not just a part of Islamic culture or a cool fashion item, but an act done out of love and obedience to the Creator.
