Reader’s Review
A unique way to teach children how to draw – this is both an instructional book with lessons on sketching, but also a story in the format of a graphic novel of a boy who finds a mentor in the park who teaches him how to draw and how to have confidence in himself. The drawing skills are explained well, and the concept of a mentor is a good one, however it’s unfortunate that on a number of occasions the mentor reacts angrily to the boy.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: The boy is eager to learn and keeps bothering the woman who is teaching him. On a number of occasions she first gets angry and yells and then gives in and teaches him. In the end when she is moving she fails to tell him despite the teacher student relationship they now have.
- Language: The teachers uses the term ‘lazy brat’
