Reader’s Review

Although this is an award winning book about a popular subject – Ancient Egypt, the level of violence makes it a questionable choice for children. There are many interesting facts about Ancient Egypt, but also 2 children who are murdered and one that is almost abducted. Also children carry out many questionable Ancient Egyptian rituals.

To look out for

  • Islamic Values: Some of the Ancient Egyptian rituals carried out by the kids include mummifying a dead pet, chanting, worshiping Egyptian gods, and using oracles. One woman is said to be working at a nightclub.
  • Violence: 1 child is murdered and found in a swamp, 1 is suffocated (both are not main characters). A main character is almost kidnapped. May bring about fear of strangers.
  • Romance: Women mentions her boyfriend. One of the characters is described as being cute.
