Reader’s Review

Adults who grew up reading books by British author Enid Blyton, will be happy to see that kids still enjoy the adventures of the Famous Five. 21 books in the series, so these will keep your kids busy for some time. The language and the gender stereotypes are outdated at times, and the children sometimes get themselves into dangerous situations, so may scare younger audiences.

To look out for

  • Islamic Values: Children often leave home and look for clues or adventures without informing their parents. Children are by themselves for extended periods of time. One of the fathers (Uncle Quentin) can be harsh, ill-tempered and not understanding of his daughter. His daughter Georgina prefers to look and act like a boy and be called George.
  • Language: Children sometimes use words like stupid
  • Violence: Characters are kidnapped and tied up, but all ends well at the end of each book
