Reader’s Review
A harrowing story about a young boy who is dealing with his eminent death, and decides to run away from home to climb a mountain across the country. Will appeal to older children as the story revolves around his dangerous adventure but also his struggle to come to terms with dying.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: Main character runs away from home without telling his parents who are extremely worried for him. His best friend is a girl – although they have a platonic relationship
- Language: Some use of the word ‘crap’ and ‘hell’
- Violence: Mark is beaten up at night by a group of teens that are roaming the streets. He and his dog face many difficulties climbing the mountain. They fall into icy waters and the dog almost dies at the end trying to save his life. He also he almost dies multiple times throughout the book
