Readers Review: The first book in a quartet introduces us to four siblings and their father (their mother has passed away but in her place they have a loving but strict nanny). To counter their boredom, the siblings decide to pool their allowances and go on individual adventures resulting in a great deal of chaos and learning opportunities. A fun read for children, lots of adventures, what stands out is the loving relationship between the siblings and their father.
Look out for: Kids may find the language and situations a tad old-fashioned since the book does not read like modern fiction.
- Islamic Values: Mona, the older sister, goes to the salon alone to get her hair and nails done. The hairdresser describes how she and her brother ran away from home because of abusive guardians. Oliver, the youngest sibling, goes to the circus by himself and is brought back by a police officer. Music and dance are a major part of their life.
- Violence: Kids’ antics result in a number of dangerous situations, including a fire at home and falling into a lake.
