Reader’s Review
A series of Jewish folktales about the village of Chelm, which is a village of fools. A variety of stories, some funny, some scary, others plain silly and the last one about Zlateh – touching and sentimental. A good introduction to folktales from around the world.
To look out for
- Islamic Values: In the first story a man wishes to go to paradise so that he doesn’t have to work, but then realizes paradise is boring. In another story the devil comes to play with a group of children on Hanukkah and scares them. In another story the devil and his wife lead away two parents, but then are forced to bring them back to their son. The elders of the village of Chelm are the most foolish of all. Some singing and dancing.
