Reader’s Review

Based on a ridiculous premise about two giant plants that survive on eating socks, this book is surprisingly fun and (almost!) believable. Two brother who grudgingly share a room begin a series of hilarious adventures when they plant mysterious seeds that grow into giant plants who steal their socks at night. With time they grow to love their plants and will do anything to save them from being thrown out by their growingly exasperated parents. The family also has to resort to all sorts of antics to keep the secret of the sock eating plants from friends and neighbours.

To look out for

  • Islamic Values: The younger brother likes to sneak up on adults and play simple pranks (such as wearing scary masks to scare them at night). The older brother once stays up late at night watching a scary movie.
  • Language: There is a fair amount of bickering and some name-calling between the boys, and the word ‘shut up’ is used a number of times in the book between the kids.
