Take a stroll through Salamville, where the sun is shining, the birds chirping, the flowers blooming, and where Cranky Kareem seems to be a little, well, cranky today. Reader’s Review

This picture book takes its style and theme from the Mr. Men and Little Miss series – Salamville is filled with monsters with names such as Happy Hamdi and Cranky Kareem and Healthy Hasan. Cranky Kareem is annoyed by Happy Hamdi’s incessant cheerful and thankful attitude and tries his best to create trouble for Hamdi to no avail. The conclusion is cute and the lesson is a valuable one to discuss.

To look out for

An additional point worth discussing with children is what if things had not worked out in the end for Cranky Kareem or Happy Hamdi – should they still be thankful and say alhamdulillah?
