Reader’s Review

A moving story about two friends torn apart by a school shooting, when one friend’s brother kills the other’s sister. A difficult topic that may not be appropriate for all audiences. but for those that can handle the topic there is a lot to learn and discuss.

To look out for

  • Islamic Values: Quinn’s brother is brainwashed by online groups that convince him to shoot those that don’t belong in America. He also kills himself. Cora’s parents have trouble dealing with the death of their daughter and respond by constantly fighting.
  • Romance: Cora’s friends think she has a crush on a fellow classmate. She says she feels different when he’s around. She hopes he asks her to the dance.
  • Violence: the school shooting is revisited a few times, but not in great detail.
